The #8 has an aluminum shaft with a soft head on one end
and an extra hard head on the other. This is great for parts
that require extreme changes. Soft and hard ends have identical
nylon cores with convex edges. The soft end has a base-felt
and an extremely tight, soft German-felt outer covering that
is fully voiced. The hard end has base-felt and a thin, hard
American-style felt outer covering.
“Probably the most practical and versatile
as well as my absolute favorite general mallet. I put a pair
of these on my stand before anything else when playing bass
drum. This is a mallet you can't live without…and no
masking tape here...Constructed to last a lifetime.”
-Tom Freer
About FREER Bass Drum Mallets
These mallets were designed to fill the gap in the
orchestral bass drum mallet market. They are designed to be
heavier and more substantial in feel than other mallets currently
available. With coverings that are sewn on more tightly and
evenly, they produce less "slap" or "contact" sound in addition
to producing a quick sound projection from the drum. Their
size and weight proportions make them easy to maneuver without
being too big and bulky. Glenn F. Smith, percussionist and
custom stick maker, handcrafts each of these mallets for Freer
Percussion Products.
